David Blaine -
A Visual Narrative
This project gives a typographic voice and visual narrative for the enigma that is David Blaine. David Blaine is an American magician, illusionist, endurance artist, and extreme performer. He is best known for his high-profile feats of endurance and has set and broken several world records. His extreme personality has been explored through the lens of experimental typography created from unexpected objects, to throw light on his characteristics. The final outcome is a typography-centric experimental newspaper layout.

01 enigma x fingers
Blaine is known for his "sleight=of-hand" technique while performing his magic card tricks (which is why fingers have been used for the letterforms). The fingers are in weird, unexpected positions to play on the confusion and illusion of his stunts.
02 push x bubblegum
Blaine is ALWAYS pushing himself into sticky situations that he can't quite get himself out of. It is for this reason that an icky, uncomfortably sticky texture has been used for this phrase. He either finds himself drowning, or starving, or balancing on a pole higher than skyscrapers. This phrase "push, push, push" is from one of his quotes - "I just push, push, push, until I black out."
03 taste for danger x pineapple
He's got QUITE the taste for danger, which is why pineapples have been used. Tasty, but full of thorns all over. The pineapple texture, without context, also looks like snake skin. A true sign of danger.
04 strength x bedsheets
The kind of strength that leaves you bedridden - something that Blaine DEFINITELY possesses. His strength and willpower is unparalleled, but where does it really leave him? In bed.
