Creative block, a universal struggle that can stifle even the most passionate minds. As Stefan Sagmeister aptly stated, "Complaining is silly. Either act or forget." I chose to act. I created Bright Side Up - a solution for myself and countless others who face this roadblock.

Through this process, I realized that creativity can be trained. Creative blocks can be un-blocked. Bright Side Up gamifies the process of overcoming creative block through 40 task cards and activities, offering a fun and effective way to break free from ruts and rediscover the joy of uninhibited creativity.

I explored different ways in which the box could open and hold the cards. I used waste sheets of paper and folded it into dummy packaging models, and did some print trials as well. A round of user testing helped identify potential issues that enabled me to make improvements to the box.

The Pouch Card

During user testing, a few participants expressed laziness and frustration with the need to gather various materials before completing certain tasks - because let's be honest, who loves hunting down supplies?. This inspired the concept of "pouch cards," where all the necessary materials would be conveniently included within the pouch itself!

The Process

Creative block is something I've battled with all my life as a designer. Getting stuck in ruts, repetitive workflows, lack of ideas are things that have always slowed me down.

Being a practitioner of Indian classical dance and music, I know how important it is to warm up your mind and body before engaging in the artform. I started drawing parallels and began to wonder if there is any way I can warm up and train my creativity to serve me better during the creative process.
